Cloning is a very controversial topic, when Dolly the sheep was introduced people were amazed amazing, but the discussion on whether people should be able to be cloned is still at large. I say that plants and animals is safe enough but, people should not be cloned. The pros of cloning animals and plants is that they arent hurting anyone, cloning can bring back dying species and repopulate species with downing numbers, and it can be used with animals to create a better version of that species. Creating new plants and animals wont hurt anyone because it is different for the over population for animals and plants. For those, you could easily fix it with hunting or trimming. Cloning animals that are going extinct is helpful because they are dying it would be good to save the animals if anything its just balancing the scale of things. The last pro for animal cloning is that it can be used to make a better version of the animal. Paying women for their eggs can be damaging to them and some women might feel pressured to give them away if they need money. Otherwise, women wouldnt give away their eggs if they werent being paid for it. It will identify key themes in the book and discuss how it contributes to the understanding of the criminal justice system in England and Wales. Hierarchy helps us summarize a complex collection of details into an understandable model. Then, as specific configurations are needed, the model dictates the appropriate manner to apply them. The Cisco hierarchical model can help you design, implement, and maintain a scalable, reliable, cost-effective hierarchical internetwork. The following are the three layers: ? ? ? The primary function of the distribution layer is to provide routing, filtering, and WAN access and to determine how packets can access the core, if needed. The distribution layer must determine the fastest way that network service requests are handled; for example, how a file request is forwarded to a server. After the distribution layer determines the best path, it forwards the request to the core layer. The core layer then quickly transports the request to the correct service. II. III. 5. ACCESS LAYER The access layer controls user and workgroup access to internetwork resources. The access layer is sometimes referred to as the desktop layer. The network resources most users need will be available locally. The distribution layer handles any traffic for remote services. In this I have been able to read different theories of network design from eBooks downloaded from the internet, doing exercises on subnetting, VLSM and VLANs and finally I had opportunity to do some practices on network documentation and laboratories on virtual LAN. II. IV. 1. THEORIES ON NETWORK DESIGN Designing a network for a better performance of data access and resource sharing of any institution is an extremely important thing to consider. I learned different concept of designing a network whether by reading eBooks or discussing it with my supervisor. A good network design is composed of four parts in general: Continued access control and policies Creation of separate collision domains Workgroup connectivity into the distribution layer through layer 2 switching Identification of customer’s needs and goals: In this part you deal with identifying business goals and technical requirements which include the task of characterizing the existing network, analysis of the network traffic. Logical network design: Here, it’s all about developing a network topology. During this phase, you devise a network layer addressing model, and selects switching and routing protocols. It also includes security planning, network management design. Finally you make a study of the service provider on how he can meet your WAN and remote access requirements Physical network design: The physical design phase deals with specific technologies and products to realize the logical design. It starts with the selection of technologies and devices for campus networks that includes cabling, Ethernet switches, wireless access points, wireless bridges, and routers. There is also a selection of technologies and devices for remote-access and WAN needs. INTERNSHIP REPORT Testing, Optimizing and Documentation: The final step is to write and implement a test plan, build a prototype or pilot, optimize the network design, and document your work with a network design proposal. If your test results indicate any performance problems, then during this phase you have to update your design to include such optimization features. 18 In all this different network design steps, I have been able to do some practices on logical network design where I did exercises on subnetting, VLAN as network management requires it. II. IV. 2. OVERVIEW VIRTUAL LOCAL AREA NETWORK (VLAN) Definition A VLAN (Virtual Local Network) is a logically separate IP subnetwork. VLANs allow multiple IP networks and subnets to exist on the same-switched network. A VLAN is a logical broadcast domain that can span multiple physical LAN segments. It allows an administrator to group together stations by logical function. A VLAN has three major functions: i. Limits the size of broadcast domains ii. Improves network performance ii. Provides a level of security Security – Security of sensitive data are separated from the rest of the network, decreasing the chances of confidential information breaches. Advantages of VLAN: Higher performance – Division of Layer 2 networks into multiple logical workgroups (broadcast domains) reduces unnecessary traffic on the network and boosts performance. Cost reduction – Cost savings result from less need for expensive network upgrades and more on this network. Types of VLAN There are different types of VLANs. The type of network traffic they carry defines a particular type of VLAN and others INTERNSHIP REPORT 9 names due to the type or a specific function the VLAN performs. The following describes common VLAN: Default VLAN At the initial boot up of the switch, All switch ports become a member of the default VLAN, which makes them all part of the same broadcast domain. This allows any network device connected to any of the switch port to communicate with other devices on other switch po rts. On Cisco switches the default VLAN is VLAN 1. VLAN 1 has all the features of any VLAN, except that you cannot rename or delete it. Data VLAN A data VLAN that can also be referred to as user VLAN. This is configured to carry only usergenerated traffic. The importance of separating user data from other type of VLAN is proper switch management and control. Native VLAN A native VLAN is assigned to trunk port. An trunk port supports traffic coming from many VLANs as well as traffic that do not come from a VLAN. The trunk port places untagged traffic (traffic that does not come from a VLAN) on the native VLAN. In summary, the native VLAN observes and identifies traffic coming from each end of a trunk link. Management VLAN A management VLAN is any VLAN you configure to access the management capabilities of a switch. Your configured management VLAN is to be assign with an IP address and subnet mask. Any of a switch VLAN could be configured as the management VLAN if you has not configured or define a unique VLAN to serve as the management VLAN. In some cases, a network administrator proactively defines VLAN 1 as the management VLAN; this enables a loophole for an unauthorized connection to a switch. Voice VLAN Voice VLAN is configured to carry voice traffic. Voice VLANs are mostly given transmission priority over other types of network traffic. Communication over the network is not complete without phone calls. More calls are made over the network than other forms of a message transmission. Sending emails and text messages are also forms of inter-relations but listening to a real voice provides legitimacy and assurance. Simple Organizational Skills Will Set You Apart From the Rest of Your Peers Photo by Tim Gouw Receiving classes of any kind, gives you the inside information you need further in life concerning the topic of matter. Now, the problem is that we all go to classes and we forget half of the lesson. Have you wondered why does it happen? Well, one of the main reasons is because you are probably the kind of student (like the majority) that feels that taking notes is just a waste of time. Or you will feel that listening to the lecture is another waste of time. It’s true that we all have different ways of learning and one thing won’t apply to you as it would apply to another person, but the true is that you should have it all organized somehow. If you have notes, the easy thing is to keep track on them by date and class. If you have lectures (where you should be also taking notes- in my opinion) then you can ask ‘authorization’ to record them, in case they give you a positive answer, then you just have to put them again either by date or topics. If you don’t have a positive answer and recording isn’t allowed then again notes will do. Some people make drawings and little comics while in lecture, with bullet points (fancy uh!). And then, missing courses or lessons is another issue. You either ‘didn’t know’ or you completely forgot (this is usually the main of reasons). Don’t you suppose to have a schedule for this? Then, you shouldn’t be missing any of this. Sometimes you will feel the burden of going to receive lessons that sometimes get you bored and exhausted but think again, because when you are learning, the interest should always be there. Sometimes you have the bad luck of having a no-such-a-good-teacher: well in this case you should be looking for your own information around (and keep it organized). Some people need to see everything on paper, so you might need to print it (try staying the most ecological possible). As I mentioned once; recording yourself isn’t a bad idea. You can read to the recorder and listening at it while driving, sleeping or taking a bath. In the other hand, a small calendar will do. Once a week, you can plan the ‘learning processes. For example, you can schedule to memorize ten verbs and their tenses per week (I’m being gentle here-you should do more than that). By the end of the month, you’ll know forty new verbs in the language! Isn’t that awesome? So you can plan ahead the expected results. See, discipline takes closer to the goal than just wishing to be better. Another thing is that the teacher or instructor will be giving you the lessons every time, therefore prepare a folder and place at your home where you will permanently have it all compiled, so you review it later on time. Remember that learning a language is like getting into a new life, and as a new life it takes time to process. Sometimes all the information you are getting might be overwhelming but when having it all organized will give you the strength to go back to the lessons after your brains process it all and then you will understand new things and will see the new skills working for you. Color coding is very helpful. For example, marking your vocabulary sheets with a yellow line in the corner of your notes, green for the use of verbs, blue for listening and pink (or red) for speaking. If you have it color coded, then it will be easy to prepare for an exams in the future, since you will know where to look when feeling a specific weakness. Remember that the school doesn’t make the student; rater the student makes the school. Check list will do you good as well! And how do I know this? Because I love learning!

Hills Like White Elephants Free Online Research Papers Ernest Hemmingway tells the story â€Å"Hills like White Elephants† nearly through pure dialog about two lovers conflicted over a serious decision. As the story progresses and through their tight conversation he reveals to us a great deal about their personalities, but leaves the details of the relationship between the two hidden. He gives his audience just enough information to find out the details of his story through detective work instead of coming outright by writing â€Å"Their relationship has suffered a great deal because of this decision†¦Ã¢â‚¬  etc. He leaves it up to his readers to basically solve the mysteries of his literature, which in return grasps our interest to his work even more. Perhaps this intentional way of writing is the reason for his name being so well known in the literate world. The first thing I thought of while reading the title of this short story was the symbolism of the White Elephant. As many would know, they do not exist unless they were born with an albino deformity. This of course is something unwanted because they burn easily from the sun’s UV rays, thus helping make the white elephant symbolize something unwanted. The same goes as well for humans. And according to www.wikipedia.com, â€Å"A white elephant is a supposedly valuable possession whose upkeep exceeds its usefulness, and it is therefore a liability.† This unwanted issue of our couple is hinted to us through the story as the burden of a possible child. The lack of communication throughout the story creates tension between the American and the girl, whose name is later on revealed to us as Jig. This is seen through many areas of our story such as when Jig talks about how everything tastes the same, and Everything tastes of licorice.† (pg 351). She does not come out and say what is exactly on her mind, but rather hints her frustration immaturely by throwing little fits or being short with her American lover. By being referred to as the girl and by her communicative actions we can assume she is very young, which would make this decision even harder for her. It is clear to us that both the American and Jig have differentiating opinions on what action to take about the abortion. The American refers to the abortion as â€Å"the operation† as if taking the crucial importance away from it. He’s more nonchalant about the ordeal and to him; it’s more of a simple decision than the girl is making it out to be. To him it’s very simple. He believes this annoyance in their lives can be removed and never thought of again. Jig believes that whether or not she keeps the baby their relationship will never be as it once was. â€Å"And once they take it away, (they) could never have it back.† (pg 352). The difference is that the American is unattached because the fetus is not inside him. Jig on the other hand is carrying the life of a possible new human being inside her and feels the natural bond between a mother and her unborn child. The American tries to convince her that the abortion is simple, while Jig feels otherwise. She is tired of traveling and ready to settle down and start a family of her own. She is bored with her current lifestyle and longs for motherhood. The only thing holding her back from this is the disapproval of her man. She is trying to make a more mature outlook on life by debating the possibilities of keeping her child. Once she has come to these conclusions, Ernest Hemmingway gave her a name, instead of calling her just the girl, symbolizing the importance of her becoming a more mature woman able to make wiser decisions. Ernest Hemmingway’s work is so wonderfully written and the way he narrates his stories makes them flow so smoothly. As you stated earlier in class today, every word he uses needs to be there. He does not give us extra to read, but gets straight to the point and makes you really think along the way. He gives us just enough details to spark our imagination and gets us to think while allowing us to get inside the heads of our two main characters. SAT Essay Examples for the 6 Types of Essay Prompts SAT / ACT Prep Online Guides and Tips There's a persistent myth about the SAT Essay: the idea that you can't prepare content because you don't see the prompt until the day of the test. This is a myth because, in order to be standardized, the test has to require the same complexity of argument in every SAT essay question: yes or no, this or that, what causes what. And since all these arguments are very simple, almost every SAT essay argument can be boiled down to one of the 6 we list here. In addition to that, though, we also explain how to argue each one, and give you sample support for both sides of every argument. Read on for the inside scoop on this important aspect of the SAT. Overview SAT Essay prompts are unlike any other writing assignment. The questions are extremely general, asking things like "is the world changing for the better," but they only ever require a very simplistic thesis statement about a complex idea. There are, for example, many ways in which the world is and is not changing for the better. The most "accurate" answer would have to be "yes AND no," but that's the opposite of what you should say on the SAT. Because on the SAT Essay, simplicity and clarity is the name of the game. You are expected to make a broad, definitive statement about what people 'should' do or whether something is possible. You don't have to believe it, you just have to present a few examples (between one and three) that can show why your statement is correct. In this way, the SAT Essay is easier than most students think. All of the essay questions in this article are taken from real SATs or College Board prep materials. We've categorized them not by their contentfor example, "success" or "personality"but rather by their reasoning. This is because the logic of the question, not its content, is what determines the best argument on which to build your essay. For each type of SAT essay question below, we give you 3 sample prompts similar to what you'll run into, and a breakdown of how to argue either side of any SAT essay question of that type. You'll get detailed SAT essay examples that guide you through how to construct an argument. SAT Essay Prompt Type 1: Discuss what people should do This type of SAT essay question lends itself to many different kinds of examples. Anything that involves people and their choices is fair game. See the diagram below for more information on how this works. Should people†¦. be valued according to their capabilities rather than their achievements? weight all opinions equally, or place more weight on informed opinions? always value new things, ideas, or values over older ones? Step 1: Pick a side. "Yes, people should always value new things, ideas, or values over older ones," or "no, people should not always value new things, ideas, or values over older ones." Step 2: Consider what would logically support your statement (see green boxes for a breakdown of the types of support you should use). For example, if you argue "Yes, people should value new things" as your thesis, you can give evidence of a time when people valued new things and it turned out well, or of a time when people didn't value innovation and it turned out poorly. Step 3: Quickly think of 1-3 real-world or literary examples that fit the criteria in Step 2 (see blue boxes for ideas). To support the Yes thesis with evidence of when people valued new things with success, we could talk about Civil Rights in the United States, the Industrial Revolution, FDR's new deal, or any other example dealign with positive innovation. We could also discuss evidence where refusal to accept new things turned out poorly, like fear of vaccinations and Galileo being excommunicated for his (true) scientific beliefs. SAT Essay Prompt Type 2: Discuss which of two things is better These questions can be fodder for 12-scoring essays because they can be answered so simply: this thing is better than that thing. Then you just have to think of 1-3 examples in which that thing worked and/or in which the other thing didn't work. See the diagram below for more information on how this can be done. Is it better... to take an idealistic approach or a practical approach? to do fulfilling or high-paying work? to use cooperation or competition to achieve success? Step 1: Pick a side. "It is better to use cooperation to achieve success," or "it is better to use competition to achieve success." Step 2: Consider what would logically support your statement (see green boxes for a breakdown of the types of support you should use). Similar to Prompt Type 1 above, in this case you can use evidence that supports your thesis, or argues against the opposite thesis. For example, if you write that "Cooperation is better to achieve success," you can use evidence on a time when cooperation led to success, or when competition led to failure. Step 3: Quickly think of 1-3 real-life or literary examples that fit the criteria in Step 2 (blue boxes). Following our "cooperation is better" thesis, we can talk about when people cooperated to great success - like the Civil Rights movement, or Abraham Lincoln's cabinet during the Civil War. We could also discuss how competition is inferior through examples like the subprime mortgage crisis of 2008, or the North Korea vs South Korea standoff. SAT Essay Prompt Type 3: Support or refute counterintuitive statements These can be the toughest SAT essay promptsif you don't know how to tackle them. The easiest way to really knock this essay type out of the park is to say yes, it is possible, and then think of an example. The other sideno, it isn't possibleis harder to logically prove, but it can be done. See the diagram below for more information on how this works. Is it possible for†¦. deception to have good results? working to reach an objective to be valuable even if the objective is not reached? any obstacle to be turned into something beneficial? Step 1: Pick a side. "Yes, it is possible for any obstacle to be turned into something beneficial," or "no, it is not possible for any obstacle to be turned into something beneficial." Step 2: Consider what would logically support your statement (see green boxes for a breakdown of the types of support you should use). Unlike the two prompt types above, this one is more simplistic - just find evidence that can support your thesis in a straightforward way. If you write "No, it's not possible for any obstacle to be turned into something beneficial," you just need to find evidence for when obstacles exist but don't lead to anything helpful. Step 3: Quickly think of 1-3 real-life or literary examples that fit the criteria in Step 2 (see blue boxes). To support the No thesis, we could use the example of how gender discrimination against women and income inequality has caused far more harm than the good it has caused. SAT Essay Prompt Type 4: Cause and effect These can be logically complicated, depending on which side you choose. If you say x is the result of y, then you just have to think of 1-3 examples that illustrate it. If you choose the other side, though, then you have a harder logical task in front of youyour examples have to fit a much narrower definition to make sense. See the diagram below for more information on how this works. Is __ the result of __? Is a successful community the result of individuals sacrificing their personal goals? Is accomplishment the result of freedom to do things one's own way? Is learning the result of experiencing difficulties? Step 1: Pick a side. "Yes, learning is the result of experiencing difficulties," or "no, learning is not the result of experiencing difficulties." Step 2: Consider what would logically support your statement (see green boxes for a breakdown of the types of support you should use). For example, if our thesis is "Yes, learning is the result of experiencing difficulties," we can either argue with evidence of a time when learning IS the result of difficulty, or when a lack of difficulty led to an absence of learning. Both types of evidence support your thesis. Step 3: Quickly think of 1-3 real-life or literary examples that fit the criteria in Step 2 (see blue boxes). For our Yes thesis, we could talk about how the difficulty of unmanageable healthcare costs in the USA led to learning and the Affordable Care Act. We could also use the other type of evidence and talk about how Jay Gatsby's lack of difficulty in having immense wealth led to poor learning about what really makes him happy. SAT Essay Prompt Type 5: Generalize about the state of the world These kinds of SAT essay prompts are so open-ended that they lend themselves to all kinds of examples and interpretations. But for this same reason, they can be overwhelming and confusing. See the diagram below for more information on how this works. What is the modern world like? Is the world more in need of creativity now more than ever? Is the world actually harder to understand due to the abundance of information now available? Is the world changing in a positive way? Step 1: Pick a side. "Yes, the world is changing in a positive way," or "no, the world is not changing in a positive way." Step 2: Consider what would logically support your statement (see green boxes for a breakdown of the types of support you should use). Let's consider the Yes thesis. We can use evidence that problems in the past that are being solved today, or innovations today that didn't previously exist. Step 3: Quickly think of 1-3 real-life or literary examples that fit the criteria in Step 2 (see blue boxes). To support our Yes thesis, we can find examples of problems that are better now - women's rights, slavery, and reduced violence. We can also discuss recent innovations that dramatically improve quality of life, like the Internet and widespread access to education. SAT Essay Prompt Type 6: Generalize about people Much like the "state of the world" questions, these can be supported by almost anything, but can also get away from you if you're not careful. See the diagram below for some ideas of how to manage these prompts. What are people like? Do people underestimate the value of community due to our culture of individualism? Are people defined by their occupations? Do people learn from the past? Step 1: Pick a side. "Yes, people learn from the past," or "no, people do not learn from the past." Step 2: Consider what would logically support your statement (see green boxes for a breakdown of the types of support you should use). Let's consider the No thesis that people don't learn from the past - we would have to find an example of when someone repeated a mistake that they could have avoided from history. Step 3: Quickly think of 1-3 real-life or literary examples that fit the criteria in Step 2 (see blue boxes). A great example to use for our No thesis is comparing Hitler and Germany to Napoleon. In 1812, Napoleon fought a war on multiple fronts, fighting the Spanish army and the Russian Empire simultaneously. This led to a drastic dilution of focus and led to his defeat. A century later in World War 2, Hitler fought on two fronts as well, facing the Allies in Europe and Russia at the same time. He too was defeated through this mistake. What do I do now? Now that you know the basic types of SAT essay prompts and the types of arguments they require, what can you do with this information?
